Which factor (SPF) should I choose when I go kitesurfing?
If you go kitesurfing you should choose a sunscreen with a high SPF, preferably factor 50. On the water you are extra vulnerable to UV radiation, because sunlight not only comes from above but is also reflected by the water surface. On top of that wind, salt water and sweat reduce the effect of regular sunscreen more quickly. A high factor gives long protection and prevents your skin from burning, even during longer sessions on the water. Especially if you kitesurf often or for a long time a high SPF is a must, so you can continue to enjoy every session without problems.
Is sunscreen bad for my wetsuit or equipment?
Sunscreen is not necessarily "bad" for your wetsuit or equipment, but it mainly depends on the type of sunscreen you use. Some sunscreens contain oils or greasy substances that are difficult to remove from your wetsuit and that can affect the neoprene in the long run. They can also leave stains on your lycra, harness or even your kiteboard. Therefore choose a specialized sunscreen that absorbs quickly and is not greasy.
