Early on in Duotone's existence, the team grew into a fixture at the top of the international competition circuit. In 2019, for example, Duotone delivered three GKA world champions: Airton Cozzolino took the world title in Kite-Surf, while Valentin Rodriguez and Mikaili Sol claimed the world titles in the men's and women's Freestyle divisions respectively. Cozzolino in particular had an exceptional season, with wins in Sylt, Mauritius, Dakhla and Preá. With that, the team immediately showed it could fight for the highest positions across several disciplines at once.

In the years that followed, Duotone kept collecting a large share of the most important titles. James Carew became GKA Kite-Surf World Champion in both 2021 and 2022. The 2022 season was particularly successful: Gianmaria Coccoluto and Mikaili Sol became Freestyle world champions, while Andrea Principi and Sol also took the Big Air Twintip titles. During the season finale, Coccoluto also set a remarkable record with 38.74 points out of a possible 40, at the time the highest heat score on the GKA Kite World Tour since the tour started in 2016. That same year, Duotone rider Lorenzo Casati also won the prestigious Red Bull King of the Air in Cape Town.

In Big Air especially, the Duotone team has pushed the boundaries of the sport further. Andrea Principi became GKA Big Air Twintip World Champion for the second year in a row in 2023, and in that same season he won both the Red Bull Megaloop and the King of the Air. In the King of the Air final he scored above nine points for all three of his counting tricks, something that had never been done there before. In 2024 he successfully defended his King of the Air title. Outside Big Air the results kept coming as well: Airton Cozzolino once again took the GKA Kite-Surf world title in 2023, while Finn Flügel became Freestyle world champion in 2025 and Pedro Matos claimed the Kite-Surf world title that same year. In a relatively short time, Duotone has built a team that consistently wins world titles and leading events in Freestyle, Big Air and wave kitesurfing.

Outside the competition circuit, Duotone riders have also pulled off some spectacular firsts. In 2025, Lasse Walker jumped his kite over a low-flying stunt plane in Cape Town, piloted by Łukasz Czepiela, a stunt that took more than two years of preparation and was presented as a world first. In 2026, Andrea Principi went a step further by jumping from the top of Ain Dubai (at roughly 250 metres the world's tallest observation wheel) with his Duotone kite and landing on the water under control. The stunt lasted almost a minute and was performed without a parachute. These projects show that the achievements of the Duotone team aren't only measured in competition titles, but also in continuously pushing the limits of what is possible within kiteboarding.

Duotone kites are built at Global Sports Lanka in Sri Lanka, a manufacturer that started out in 1983 under the name North Sails and has worked with the brand from day one. Today's kite factory is therefore literally the sail loft of back then. The kiteboards have followed a different route: for years the twintips came from the CAPiTA MotherShip in Austria, the world's first snowboard factory to run entirely on clean energy. These days SWS Board Technology in Dubai builds them, a manufacturer founded in 2004 whose roof is covered almost completely in solar panels.

The design comes from somewhere else. A lot of the drawing and testing happens on Maui, while engineers from parent company Boards & More work on material research, constructions and technical measurements from Oberhaching. In Duotone's own Laboratory, materials and complete products are loaded and analysed under controlled conditions. Prototypes are built at the eventual factory wherever possible, so that in terms of construction they are close to the production product from an early stage. After that comes the water: Maui, the Canary Islands, Tarifa and other spots with widely varying conditions.

When it comes to sustainability, Duotone puts the emphasis on lifespan rather than replacement. The Repair & Care programme has been running since 2025, with repair guides you can use yourself and a network of certified repair shops for the work you'd rather not do on your own. Register a new product within sixty days and you get an extra six months of warranty on top of the statutory period. The brand is also a member of 1% For the Planet.
