6mm women's wetsuits at Kitemana
A 6mm wetsuit womens is the warmest option for kitesurfing in cold water. While a 5/4 or 4/3 works perfectly during the shoulder seasons, 6mm neoprene really comes into its own when water temperatures drop below 10 degrees Celsius and cold winds start cutting through. The thicker neoprene provides better insulation and keeps your core warm, allowing you to continue kiting throughout winter while others are already freezing on the beach. On this page, you'll learn who a 6mm women's wetsuit is suitable for, how it compares to thinner wetsuit thicknesses, and what to look for in terms of fit and features. You can find an overview of all wetsuit thicknesses on our women's wetsuit page.
Information about 6mm womens wetsuits:
When do you wear a 6mm womens wetsuit?
A 6mm women's wetsuit is designed for extremely cold conditions, generally when water temperatures range between 4 and 8 degrees Celsius. These are the conditions you typically encounter in the Netherlands and Belgium from December through March. If the coldest water temperatures at your local spot are warmer than that, a 5mm women's wetsuit or a 4mm women's wetsuit may offer more flexibility. A 6mm women's wetsuit is primarily designed to keep you warm rather than maximize flexibility, although modern wetsuits are significantly more flexible than they were ten years ago.
At these temperatures, a proper fit is especially important. A 6mm women's wetsuit should fit snugly around your body without restricting your shoulders, chest, hips, or knees. As little water as possible should enter the wetsuit because trapped water warms up faster than water that constantly flushes through. You should still be able to move freely, bend over comfortably, and raise your arms above your head. If the wetsuit is too loose, you'll lose warmth. If it's too tight, movement becomes difficult and your session less comfortable. Keep in mind that a dry wetsuit will always feel tighter during fitting. As it gets used in the water more often, it will loosen slightly over time.
What features should you look for? A front zip wetsuit generally seals better around the neck and offers excellent freedom of movement, although it can be slightly harder to put on. We recommend this type of closure for thicker wetsuits. The warmest models often feature a thermal lining on the inside that retains heat and dries quickly. Also pay attention to glued and blind stitched (GBS) seams to reduce water entry, as well as reinforced, flexible panels in the arms and legs.
6mm women's winter wetsuits are commonly used in popular kitesurfing countries during winter, such as the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Denmark, and England. They are also an excellent choice for destinations with cold winds and low water temperatures, including Scandinavia, Ireland, and parts of Canada.
