The fabric sits tight against your skin, so your harness and your board are less likely to leave rash behind. Brunotti gives this shirt a UPF 50+ label, so your skin picks up a lot less UV than a bare back would.
The polyester dries fast, so the rashguard is dry on the line again right after your session. The seams are finished flat, so nothing irritates your armpits or ribs during long sessions. Under your wetsuit it also works as an extra layer against rubbing, although a lycra shirt does not add any warmth.
