Women’s harnesses at Kitemana
A harness is the connection between you and your kite, so it needs to fit properly in every situation. But what should you look for when choosing a women’s harness? In the information block below, we explain everything about fit, types, and materials. You will learn what the difference is between a hardshell and a softshell, which size suits you best, and why a women’s model often feels much better than a unisex version. This way, you can make a well founded choice and head out on the water with more comfort and control. Kitesurfing becomes not only more fun, but also a lot easier with the right support. Still not fully sure? No worries, we are here for you with personal advice.
Most frequently asked questions about women’s harnesses:
What is the difference between a women’s harness and a unisex model?
The difference between a women’s harness and a unisex model is mainly in the fit of the harness. Women’s harnesses are specifically designed with the female body in mind. The back length is often slightly shorter, so the harness fits better on a shorter upper body. In addition, the shape at the bottom is wider and more rounded to match wider hips. This helps the kite harness stay in place while riding, reduces the chance of it riding up, and spreads pressure more evenly across your body.
With a unisex kitesurf harness, the fit is often less specific, which increases the chance of the harness creeping up or creating annoying pressure points. You notice this especially during longer sessions or in stronger wind. A women’s harness therefore provides not only more comfort, but also better performance. You need to correct less and can ride longer with more enjoyment.
How do I know which size women’s harness I need?
Choosing the right size women’s harness is important for comfort and safety on the water, but it is mainly about how it feels. We can still give you guidelines on what to look for before buying. A well fitting kitesurf harness should sit firmly around your waist without pinching, and it should not ride up while riding. Sizes are usually shown as S, M, L, sometimes XS or XL, but the exact fit differs by brand and model. Often, a harness fits smaller than you might expect from your regular clothing size. Also keep in mind you wear a wetsuit under your harness, and the harness can loosen slightly once it gets wet. Not sure between two sizes? Then it is usually best to go for the smaller size, as it will stay in place better while riding.
The best option is to come and try a harness in our kiteshop in Noordwijk. That way, we can check the fit, give advice, and make sure you head onto the water with the right setup. Do you not live nearby? We can also help you easily via WhatsApp.
Which women’s harness is suitable for beginners?
If you are just starting with kitesurfing, choosing the right harness can feel like a challenge. For beginners, a seat harness is often the most comfortable option. You wear this style like a short harness around your hips and upper legs. Thanks to the leg straps, the harness stays in place and does not ride up when you keep the kite at 12 o’clock, something beginners often do while practicing.
A seat harness spreads the kite’s pull lower across your body, which reduces strain on your back and core. This makes longer sessions and lots of practice more comfortable. As your technique improves and you gain more control, many riders switch to a waist harness for more freedom of movement and a lighter feel on the water.
