The complete Gaastra kite collection can be found online at Kitemana. Gaastra has been producing kites since the early 2000s and was one of the first major brands in the sport. Over the years, many different models have been released, each with its own character and target rider. Below we briefly cover all Gaastra kites that have been produced and categorise them by riding style. This makes it easy to see which kite suits you best, or which current model is most similar to an older Gaastra kite.

Gaastra Spark kite
The all-rounder of the collection and Gaastra's best-selling kite for many years. The Spark was developed as a kite that feels at home everywhere: freeride is its foundation, but it performs equally well in the waves, on a foil, during a big air session and even for some freestyle. Key features include its three-strut construction, low weight, progressive bar pressure and extremely easy relaunch: simply pull one side of the bar. Thanks to its wide wind range and predictable behaviour, the Spark is suitable for both ambitious beginners and experienced riders. In addition to the regular sizes, there is also a light-wind version for days with very little wind.

Gaastra Max kite
The power kite of the collection, built for big air and heavily powered freeride. The Max is the only kite in the range with five struts and has a medium aspect ratio, resulting in an exceptionally stable frame combined with plenty of power and explosive lift. Its finely segmented leading edge with eighteen segments and divided tips creates a clean curve and precise aerodynamics. The profile is designed for strong upwind performance and long hangtime, making the Max the logical choice for advanced and heavier riders who want big boosts and kiteloops.

Gaastra Pure kite
One of the longest-running names in the range and still the brand's most performance-oriented kite. The Pure combines the feel of a C-kite with the benefits of a modern bridle: plenty of depower, a wider wind range and easy relaunch. This makes it suitable for modern freestyle, wave riding and radical freeride. Key characteristics include explosive and predictable pop, good slack for unhooked tricks and rapid recovery after a kiteloop. The stiff leading edge keeps the kite responsive and controlled under load and in gusty conditions.

Gaastra One kite
The light-wind specialist and, with its single strut, the lightest kite in the collection. The One is designed to keep generating power when other kites start dropping out of the sky. Thanks to its low weight and efficient profile, you can get onto your board early and keep planing on marginal days. This makes it the ideal kite for light-wind sessions, foiling and summer days with very little wind. The One is available in larger sizes and, for foilers and lighter riders, in smaller sizes as well.

Gaastra IQ kite
For many years, this was the brand's wave and freeride kite, completing the range alongside the Spark and Pure. The IQ was known for combining fast turning speed with stability and control, and was gradually refined to offer more drift and extremely direct steering. Exactly what you need to get the most out of a wave session. The IQ has now been discontinued, with its role taken over by the Pure and Spark.

Gaastra Pact kite
The brand's wakestyle kite and a distinctive model in its history. With the Pact, Gaastra returned to a true C-kite for the first time since the brand was a market leader with the GXR in the early 2000s. The Pact was developed together with multiple European champion Mario Rodwald around three core principles: perfectly predictable slack, powerful but controllable pop and precise feedback through the bar. As the only Gaastra kite, it flew on five lines: a no-compromise kite for dedicated wakestyle and freestyle riders. Note: the Pact name now lives on as a twintip in the Gaastra boards collection and is no longer used for a kite.

Gaastra Jet kite
The race and light-wind kite from earlier collections, and the most specialised model Gaastra has produced. The objective was simple: maximum speed. Thanks to extensive aerodynamic development and an extremely lightweight construction, the Jet was one of the fastest kites on the market, designed for racing and achieving high speeds in light wind. A true specialist without compromises, which also meant it was not intended for the average freerider. Its role as Gaastra's light-wind kite was later taken over by the One.

Gaastra Toxic kite
The wave kite that, together with the first Spark, marked the beginning of Gaastra's modern kite collection. The Toxic was built around one idea: keeping your focus on the wave rather than on your kite. With a three-strut construction for low weight, extremely direct steering, fast turning speed and plenty of depower, it drifted smoothly when the lines went slack. Riders especially praised its stability in gusty winds and its direct relaunch. In addition to wave riding, the Toxic was also highly capable for freeride, making it a versatile surf kite.

About the model years
Gaastra updates its kites every year, but almost always in gradual steps. The differences are mainly found in the materials, wingtip shape and depower tuning, while the fundamental character of each model remains intact. A Gaastra kite that is a year or two old is therefore still an excellent choice and often considerably more affordable. If you are buying an older model year, check the condition of the bladders, trailing edge and bridle.
