The Duotone Provoke 2027 doesn't even try to be an allround board. Sky Solbach designed it together with Duotone team rider Matchu Lopes around strapless freestyle, and you notice that everywhere. Calm on the approach, plenty of pop off the water and a tail that holds you on the landing. There's a reason it sits separate from the wave boards in the line-up. Whether you're working on your first shuvits or going for rotations with a grab, this board comes along with you.

The outline is parallel and the rocker is medium. That way you hold your speed on the approach and the board stays calm under your feet, even when the water isn't cooperating. You pop without having to correct first. The tail is wide, so you can load up serious pressure into it. That energy comes back out in one hit, and that's exactly what you need to get some height.

On the landing the aggressive bottom channels grab the water. The board doesn't slide out and doesn't bounce, not even when you come in a bit crooked. The nose rocker is pulled up a little further, which you mainly notice in chop, because your nose is less likely to dig in. So you're stable again quicker and can go straight into your next attempt. That saves a lot of wasted time on a day when you're learning something new.

Rode a Provoke last year? Then it's simple: only the colour is new. Same shape, same construction. Duotone had little reason to change anything either. That construction is Carbon Innegra, strong and light, with a direct feel under your feet. The Vacuum Epoxy Assembly keeps the flex stiff and predictable, so your pop doesn't half disappear into the board. Inside there's a full PVC high impact core, and you need it too. Strapless freestyle simply means a lot of crashes and hard landings.

The Provoke comes in one size: 5'1" with 13.2 litres. That's thin and low in volume, so you do need some power to get it going. In return you get a board that won't fight you in the air.
