Take on winter with the Mercury 6/4 from Prolimit
January, six degree water, a steady offshore breeze and an empty beach. Exactly the conditions the Prolimit Mercury 6/4 Double Frontzip 2027 Wetsuit is built for. This is the thickest wetsuit in the Mercury line without a hood, so it is ideal if you prefer a separate neoprene cap or just want to keep your head free. Prolimit uses the Free-zip closure here, better known to us as a double frontzip, which you can pull shut fast even with cold fingers.
6/4mm neoprene can feel bulky, but Prolimit clearly thought this one through. The Neolight heather 550+ outer fabric with Quad Flex outer lining stretches in every direction, so your arms and shoulders stay free while the thick material does its job. At the same time, the woven grid structure of Quad Flex adds strength in the spots that take the most abuse, like your forearms and shoulders.
The real winter gain comes from the Thermal Rebound2 layer. It sits between the NaturePrene2 and the Zodiac2 inner lining and works like a rescue blanket: your body heat gets bounced back at you instead of handed over to the cold water. Underneath sits the Zodiac2 plush fleece, which pulls moisture off your skin and releases it again quickly. You will not notice the difference in the first ten minutes, but you definitely will in the last half hour of your session.
Keeping water out is half the job in winter. The seams are triple glued with water-based Aqua Alpha glue, blind stitched and sealed on the outside with a wide carbon neoprene tape using the Fluid Taping Method. That keeps them stretchy and stops almost all water from getting through. If some does get in after a hard crash, the drainholes at the bottom of the legs let it run back out and the ankle straps keep your wetsuit in place. The KED knee construction protects your knees without you having to bend against the material.
