Versatile 4/3 Free-X frontzip wetsuit from Prolimit
If you only have room for one wetsuit in your bag, this is the one. The Prolimit Mercury 4/3 Free-X Frontzip 2027 Wetsuit covers the biggest part of a temperate season: from the first warm spring days to the last solid sessions in November. At Prolimit the Mercury has been the most used model for years, simply because 4/3mm is the thickness that gives you enough warmth without wrapping you up. You get full freedom of movement in your shoulders and the Free-X frontzip closes in a couple of seconds.
A frontzip has two big advantages. Your back stays free of zipper, so you do not feel a hard strip between your harness and your spine when you are loaded up in the hook. And because the closure sits on your chest, far less water gets in during a crash than with a zip running all the way down your back. You put it on by pushing your head through the opening, after which the Zodiac2 plush inner lining does the rest of the work. That fleece is smooth enough to slide over wet skin, something you appreciate when you are standing in the car park with the wind hammering you.
The 4-layer construction with Thermal Rebound2 makes a 4/3 feel warmer than the thickness alone suggests. The reflective layer sits between the NaturePrene2 and the Zodiac2 lining and bounces your body heat back inside, while blocking windchill at the same time. The Neolight heather 550+ outer fabric with Quad Flex adds stretch in every direction, plus a woven grid that keeps the material strong.
The rest takes care of durability: FTM taped seams that are triple glued and blind stitched, water-based Aqua Alpha glue, KED knee panels that bend with you and drainholes with ankle straps at the bottom of the legs. The NaturePrene2 itself is made with natural rubber and oyster shell powder instead of oil-based neoprene, and is free of PAH and extender oils. Good for your skin and for the water you are standing in.
