Flysurfer Sonic 5 Kite
Big air closed cell kite for more control, jumps, and lift
Looking for a kite that lets you easily train rotations with high jump frequency and massive hangtime in light wind, just like pro rider Jamie Overbeek? The Flysurfer Sonic 5 Kite is built to help you jump more often, float longer, and land cleaner. Compared to the Sonic 4, its handling has been improved, lift is more vertical, and downloops are easier to time with a clear second boost. It’s designed for intermediate to pro riders training big air, hydrofoil big air, and high-performance freeride in light wind. For beginner foilers, we recommend checking out the Flysurfer Soul.
This version of the Flysurfer Sonic introduces several key updates that are clearly noticeable in the kite’s handling. The refined outline and updated canopy curve make the kite turn more “harmoniously” and delay flow separation, resulting in more predictable and less turbulent steering. Air flows more smoothly through and along the kite. The new profile sections distribute power more evenly and deliver better feedback to both harness and bar. These profile sections create maximum explosiveness combined with balanced depower. The aspect ratio has been increased and paired with CCB (Chord Cut Billow), a panel shaping technique on the leading edge that makes the kite’s nose more aerodynamic. In short, these updates give the kite a less turbulent feel when steering. The new air intake line improves inflation when launching and prevents the leading edge from deforming, especially useful at a small angle of attack. Together, these changes allow for easier take-offs, higher flight speed through the wind window, and reduced sideways drag.
These updates make several differences noticeable on the water. First, the kite turns more smoothly. Heli-loops rotate in a consistent flow without stalling, providing more uplift for softer landings. The depower range remains large, and the kite keeps its shape at speed and in gusts. Material and bridle choices are optimized for less frequent trimming and long-lasting consistent performance. Compared to the Sonic 4, the Sonic 5 requires less bar input when loading up, flies quicker through the window, and its improved pendulum dynamics make downloops more accessible.
The Flysurfer Sonic 5 Kite is recommended for experienced to professional kitesurfers who want to train big air rotations and controlled landings in light wind conditions from 16 knots and up. Thanks to the efficiency and stability of this closed cell foilkite, you’ll have the airtime and stability to safely and effectively practice technical tricks and rotations.
