Kitespot Heiligenhafen

Kitesurfing in Heiligenhafen means Graswarder. The designated kite spot sits right behind the marina and works best in west to northwest wind, while east wind gives you flat water. Kiting is banned at Steinwarder and on the Binnensee lagoon. One thing up front: Heiligenhafen is a spot for experienced riders. The pier, beach chairs and wooden groynes leave beginners too little room.

Kitespot Großenbrode

Kitesurfing in GroĂźenbrode works in east and southeast winds. You choose between the GroĂźenbrode Ost lagoon, with flat but deep water, and SĂĽdstrand, the south beach, with chop and waves on the open sea. In northeast winds, stay away. The spot suits intermediate and advanced riders, and there is no kite school on site.

Kitespot Fehmarn

Kitesurfing on Fehmarn works in almost any wind direction, because the island has spots on every side. In west and southwest winds you head to Orth or Gold, in easterlies to Wulfen or Gold again. GrĂĽner Brink on the north coast runs in everything except south. And Gold, with its standing-depth water, is where you learn.

Kitespot Laboe und Schöneberg

Kitesurfing in Laboe means a huge standing-depth lagoon in front of the naval memorial, knee to hip deep, with the ferries of the Kiel Fjord sliding past behind you. A few kilometres east lies Schönberger Strand, with groynes and short Baltic chop. The two spots face different directions. When one is offshore, the other usually works side-shore.

Kitespot Cuxhaven

Kitesurfing in Cuxhaven-Sahlenburg happens on waist-deep tidal flats at the mouth of the Elbe, usually more relaxed than St. Peter-Ording. The area switches between flat water and chop, which suits everyone from beginner to advanced. Everything here runs on the tide: roughly three hours before to three hours after high tide.

Kitespot Büsum

Kitesurfing in BĂĽsum means the Perlebucht: a closed-off lagoon with mirror-flat water at any wind strength, roughly 300 metres long and 150 wide. In front of it lies a huge waist-deep area in the North Sea where beginners learn safely. For the lagoon itself, though, you need VDWS Level 5.
