Privacy-statement – for our customers surfing online

It's great that you are really interested in how we handle your personal data. We could – just like others do – present our privacy statement to you in riddles, but we do not want that. Instead, we keep it simple and easy and in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). We explain it in more detail here.

We are Kitemana, a kitesurf shop located in Noordwijk. This privacy statement informs you about how we handle your personal data when you visit our website. When you visit our online shop, we are the (legal) person in charge of your personal data. That is a term from the GDPR that we must comply with.

Which personal data do we process about you?

It depends on the purpose of your visit, which personal data we collect. This may include your name, your contact details, including address, place of residence, e-mail address and telephone number. In addition, we might also ask for your date of birth and gender. Those last two remain optional of course. We do not judge by age or gender. Instead, we might want to send you birthday wishes on your special day. If you would like to receive an email from us on your birthday, you can enter your date of birth, otherwise just leave the field blank. We also process your IP address. In return you get cookies from us. You can read more about the use of cookies in our cookie statement.

What do we need your personal data for?

- Order & Delivery
If you buy a product via our online shop, we collect your personal data to process your order. For example, it is useful for us to know, to where we can ship your fresh kite gear to. Also, if there is something about your order we would like to update you about, we like to let you know personally, by telephone or by email.
Our payment service receives your bank details for the payment of your order. We process your data, because this is necessary for us to finalize your order and to fulfil the contract that has just been closed between you and Kitemana.

- Return, repair and warranty
For products that are returned - for repair or for exchange - we receive your personal data on the return form.
For refunds, we generally use the payment method chosen by you and if this is not possible, we use your bank account number to refund the amount.

- Account
To recognize you as a returning customer, we ask you to create an account. With a username and password you create a unique account so that you do not have to enter your details again with every order.

- Newsletter
If you would like to be kept informed of news and promotions (read: coupons for a discount!) from KiteMana, you can sign up for the newsletter. Not surprisingly, we need your email address for that. We will then process your e-mail address based on your permission. Do you no longer wish to receive the newsletter? Then unsubscribe via the link you see at the bottom of the newsletter.

- Contact
For questions about your order or advice about our equipment, you can of course contact KiteMana. We then process the personal data that you share with us on the basis of our legitimate interest in processing your question or request. If we receive valuable feedback about your experience with our webshop and/or support, you can also use your data to improve our service.

- Customer review
Speaking of feedback, at KiteMana customer satisfaction is really important. We are curious about your experience with our webshop and service. When you have ordered something from us, we may send you an invitation by e-mail to write a review about us. If you no longer wish to receive this email with your next order, please unsubscribe using the link at the bottom of the invitation email.

Who do we share your data with?

We only share your data with other parties to the extent that this is necessary for the performance of the service. These are, for example, our suppliers, delivery services, payment services, IT service providers and parties that collect our customer reviews.

How long do we keep your data?

Insofar as a statutory retention period applies, we store your data on the basis of this prescribed period. For example, invoices must be kept for 7 years by the tax authorities. We will then store your personal data on it for that period. If you as a customer are in our system, we will leave you there for up to 3 years after your last order. After that, we delete the personal data that is no longer necessary to keep. If you have signed up for the newsletter, we will keep your data as long as you do not unsubscribe.

Cookie statement Kitemana – the trace of cookie crumbles

To provide you the best surf session possible on our website, we work with cookies. When you surf on our page, you leave a trace of cookie crumbles behind. Thanks to this data, we can optimize our page for you. Cookies can collect personal data. This data is often not directly traceable to you personally, but can be indirectly linked to you as some cookies process your IP address. This means, you can be identified as a returning visitor and this is useful to you. Thanks to that, you don't have to always set the desired language or refill your shopping cart after you have been inactive for a while. Join the conversation! We have placed plug-ins (buttons) from various social media channels on our website, so that you can access our social media page on which we are active and reachable as well. These third parties collect information about your surfing behaviour and interests in order to show you relevant content and advertisements on the respective platform you visit. The information collected by these social media channels is transferred to and through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube and stored on servers in the United States.
