Frequently asked questions about women’s hooded wetsuits:
When do you wear a women’s hooded wetsuit?
A women’s hooded wetsuit is usually worn in water temperatures of around 4 to 11 degrees Celsius. Of course, it is important to mention that this also depends entirely on the thickness of the wetsuit. A 6mm women’s hooded wetsuit is naturally more resistant to cold than a 4mm women’s hooded wetsuit.
The advantage of a women’s hooded wetsuit is that the hood is attached to the wetsuit. This creates a better seal around the neck and reduces water entry compared to a separate hood. The hood also shifts less during crashes. This gives you a warmer and more comfortable feeling on the water. A separate hood is useful if you want more flexibility and do not want to ride with a hood attached to your wetsuit during spring or autumn. A fixed hood is often better if you ride with a hood throughout most of spring, autumn, and winter, or if you get cold quickly.
Women’s hooded wetsuits are commonly used at cold kitesurf spots such as Scandinavia and parts of Canada and the United States. In the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Denmark, and the United Kingdom, a hooded wetsuit is also often used during winter. Wherever the wind is good but the water stays cold, a hooded wetsuit is a smart option. When choosing one, pay attention to the neoprene thickness, stretch, seams, and zipper construction. This way, you get the most out of your winter session and stay warm, comfortable, and problem-free on the water.

Kitemana wetsuit advice
Is it really at its coldest on the water? Then, besides neoprene accessories such as gloves, boots, and a hood, you can also use thermal layers for extra warmth. Thermal layers are available for wearing under and over your wetsuit. They give you that extra bit of insulation during extremely cold sessions. The advantage of thermal layers is that they add warmth without immediately having to buy a new wetsuit. This makes your current wetsuit more suitable for colder days. Ideal if you want to keep riding comfortably for longer in winter, spring, or on a chilly day with lots of wind.
