Duotone SLS – Strong / Light / Superior!

Duotone SLS 2022 The SLS concept was first introduced by Duotone in 2021. SLS stands for Strong, Light and Superior and the SLS batch can be found on certain Duotone kites as well as kiteboards. But what do these letters actually stand for?! SLS is a design and development philosophy by Duotone. The question behind is: what is the best possible product right now that designers and developers can build, regardless of market analysis, productivity levels, sales and turnover?! All SLS products feature new materials and construction methods to save weight, improve stability and offer more performance. These products are aimed at progressive and ambitious riders that want that extra bit of performance to be able to push their limits! SLS Materials

The key to the new high performing products of the SLS range are new materials. Duotone SLS kites and Duotone SLS kiteboards are made of new materials that are exclusively used on SLS products.

Duotone Penta TX

For ages, the kite industry has been using Dacron as the go-to material for the kite frame. Duotone has now used the new Penta TX material for leading edge and struts in Duotone SLS kites. Penta TX has a five times higher tear resistance, has 15% less weight compared to conventional Dacron and most importantly: it is super stiff. This allows to build more responsive, agile and aggressive kites.

Innegra Shield

Duotone SLS Surfboards are equipped with the unique Innegra Shield. Innegra is a polypropylene fiber that has a variety of uses: from innovative aerospace materials to extreme sports equipment. By replacing conventional fiberglass with Innegra, the Duotone SLS surfboards are much more robust, have less weight and have really nice dampening properties.

Textreme Innegra

Duotone SLS Twintips feature a mix of carbon fibers and innegra fibers. This unique construction provides smooth dampening properties that other full carbon boards lack. On top, it enhances the durability of the construction. The feel is still super direct with huge pop and feedback.

SLS in the 2021 Duotone Product Range

In 2021, Duotone launched several SLS products. The first Duotone SLS Kites were the Duotone Neo SLS 2021 and the Duotone Evo SLS 2021 and those first SLS kites took the kite world with a storm. The Neo SLS wave kite offers even more agile and direct steering compared to the already awesome Duotone Neo. A huge success was the Duotone Evo SLS across all disciplines – like the Duotone Evo on steroids. Super direct and powerful, the Duotone Evo SLS 2021 performs extremely well on all playgrounds. Thanks to the stiffer frame, nearly all Duotone team riders switched to the Evo SLS for their Big Air game.
Duotone launched all Surfboards in 2021 also in their SLS construction. Whether Whip SLS 2021, Wam SLS 2021 or Voke SLS 2021 and all the other Duotone surfboards. The replacement of some of the fiberglass with Innegra fibers gives the Wam SLS 2021 a smoother feel in top and bottom turns when chasing swells. The Voke SLS benefits hugely from the SLS construction as it is much more robust and lighter. This gives Strapless Freestyle riders a more playful Voke SLS that is easier to grab and hold for aerial tricks, while it is also more resistant against heel dents.

Duotone SLS 2022

As Duotone SLS was such a big success and the products perform amazingly well, we hope to see more Duotone SLS products to be designed and developed and brought to market.

Duotone Evo SLS 2022

It’s a given that Duotone will bring an Evo SLS 2022 to the market. The first edition of the Evo SLS was such a big success and a great kite, so we are sure that this model will be continued. We expect to see some finetuning mostly for the Evo SLS 2022, as the Evo SLS 2021 was already such a great performance machine. Duotone Neo SLS 2022

The new edition of the Neo SLS 2022 is expected to feature small updates, such as finetuning the bride system or minor changes to the kite itself. The Neo SLS 2022 will surely have superior drift and feel super crisp at the bar thanks to the light and super stiff Penta TX material. Duotone Dice SLS 2022

As the SLS Kites perform so well, we would love to see an SLS version of one of our favorite kites: a Duotone Dice SLS 2022. A Duotone Dice SLS 2022 Kite would be insane. The stiffer construction of the Dice SLS 2022 would hugely benefit the radical kiteloops that are already possible on the Dice 2021. Duotone Rebel SLS 2022

Also the Rebel SLS 2022 Kite would be a guaranteed success. An even more direct and aggressive 5-strut-hangtime machine like the Rebel SLS 2022 would unlock a lot of new personal records on the WOO of many riders. We are looking forward to the Rebel SLS 2022. As for SLS kiteboards, we expect to see a new collection of Duotone 2022 SLS Twintips, like the Jaime SLS 2022 Kiteboard, the Select SLS 2022 Kiteboard or the Soleil SLS 2022 Kiteboard. These twintips were part of last years range and surely be included in the new Duotone 2022 SLS Twintip Line Up. The weight of our gear is always important, but most important if we approach the lightwind sector of kitesurfing. The Duotone Spike SLS was a lot of fun already in marginal conditions, so a Spike SLS 2022 Kiteboard should be a given.

As for lightwind, so far the SLS concept was not introduced to any of the foiling gear. We can imagine that the shapers at Duotone have worked to also introduce Innegra to the foilboards. So, lets cross our fingers for boards like the Pace SLS 2022 Foilboard.
